Raymond G. Slavin, MD, MS, FAAAAI Lectureship
Raymond Slavin, MD, MS, FAAAAI is Emeritus Professor of Internal Medicine and Microbiology, and Emeritus Director of Allergy and Immunology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. An author or contributing author of more than 400 publications, abstracts, and chapters, his research interests have included the pathogenesis of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, relationships between the upper and lower airway (particularly sinusitis and asthma), inner-city asthma and asthma in the elderly.
His past service includes terms as President of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; member, Board of Directors of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology; member, Allergy and Immunology Residency Review Committee (RRC) of the American Council of Graduate Medical Education; member of the Immunological Sciences Study Section of NIH; Chairman of the Board of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and founder of the St. Louis Chapter of AAFA. He also has received the Distinguished Clinician Award from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; the Gold Headed Cane Award from the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; and the Lifetime Achievement award from St. Louis Business Journal.
Dr. Slavin had his undergraduate training at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and obtained his MD degree from Saint Louis University. After an internship at the University of Michigan and Internal Medicine residency at Saint Louis University, he was an NIH fellow in Allergy and Immunology at Northwestern University Medical School where he received an MS in Internal Medicine. In 1965, he returned to Saint Louis University School of Medicine as a full-time faculty member and Director of the Division of Allergy and Immunology in the Department of Internal Medicine. In 2012, he became Professor Emeritus and continues his involvement with the Division. He has attended 60 consecutive annual meetings of the AAAAI. In his 90s, he continues to see patients and teach in an inner-city free clinic in St. Louis.
In 1995, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and in 2002 became a Master of the American College of Physicians.
